Rudong was an ocean in ancient times, and gradually became land during the Tang Dynasty. The Tang general Xue Rengui stationed troops here, which is the origin of the name of Matang Town. In the Northern Song Dynasty, the two towns of Cangcha and Fengli were established. The "Fangong Dike" built by Fan Zhongyan ran through the entire territory. It gradually prospered in the Ming Dynasty. Jugang was known as the "Ten-mile Small Yangzhou". Buddhism flourished and there were many temples. It was not abolished until the Qing Dynasty.
After the decisive battle of Huangqiao in the winter of 1940, the Third Column of the Subei Command of the New Fourth Army advanced to Tong (Nantong), Ru (Rugao), Hai (Haimen), and Qi (Qidong), and at the same time divided the original Rugao County into Ruxi County and Rugao County (Rugao Dongxiang). Since 1941, Rugao County has been under the jurisdiction of the Fourth Administrative District of Suzhong. In the autumn of 1945, Ruxi County was renamed Rugao County; Rugao County was renamed Rudong County and was under the jurisdiction of Nantong City.
The total construction area of the office building built by the Rudong Public Security Bureau is about 31,000 square meters.
